Air purifiers & PNW summers

As we gear up for summer in the Pacific Northwest, it's smart to prep your home for more than just warmer weather. In recent years, wildfire smoke has become a seasonal concern—and indoor air quality is more important than ever. Portable air purifiers can be a key tool for staying healthy, especially if you have pets, or are sensitive to allergens or respiratory conditions.

Here’s what PNW homeowners should know:

  • One room at a time: Most purifiers are designed for single-room use. To cover your entire home, consider multiple units or invest in a whole-house solution. Be sure each unit matches the room size for maximum efficiency.

  • Go for True HEPA: Look for purifiers labeled True HEPA(not “HEPA-like”), which capture fine particles such as smoke, pollen, and dander. Many models use multi-layered filters to tackle different pollutants—check what each device is designed to target.

  • Replace filters often: In the PNW, wildfire season or pet-heavy homes may mean more frequent filter changes. Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines and consider stocking up ahead of fire season.

  • Set realistic expectations: No purifier removes 100% of pollutants. They help with particles, but not with issues like mold or lingering cigarette smoke.

Stay proactive this summer—an air purifier is a solid investment in both comfort and health.
